Soft and fluffy hot dog rolls with a flavorful spread, baked to perfection.
Ingredients
For the Dough
- 1 cup lukewarm milk
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp sugar (optional, for a slightly sweet dough)
For the Filling
- 4-6 hot dogs
- 2 tbsp mustard
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
For Brushing
- Milk or egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp milk)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, mix lukewarm milk, yeast, and 1 tsp sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar (if using).
- Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix and knead into a smooth, soft dough.
- Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Shape the Hot Dog Rolls
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
- Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a ball.
- Flatten each ball into an oval shape and spread a thin layer of mustard, ketchup, and mayo.
- Place a hot dog in the center and roll the dough around it, sealing the edges.
- Place the rolls seam-side down on a lined baking tray.
Step 3: Bake
- Brush the rolls with milk or egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
