Homemade Hot Dog Rolls

Soft and fluffy hot dog rolls with a flavorful spread, baked to perfection.


Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 1 cup lukewarm milk
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp sugar (optional, for a slightly sweet dough)

For the Filling

  • 4-6 hot dogs
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise

For Brushing

  • Milk or egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp milk)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, mix lukewarm milk, yeast, and 1 tsp sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar (if using).
  3. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix and knead into a smooth, soft dough.
  4. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Shape the Hot Dog Rolls

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a ball.
  3. Flatten each ball into an oval shape and spread a thin layer of mustard, ketchup, and mayo.
  4. Place a hot dog in the center and roll the dough around it, sealing the edges.
  5. Place the rolls seam-side down on a lined baking tray.

Step 3: Bake

  1. Brush the rolls with milk or egg wash for a golden finish.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
