Easy Meen Pathiri/ Ada

 Easy Meen Ada/ Pathiri (Fish cakes/pies)


This easy and delicious take on Meen Ada is perfect for satisfying instant cravings.




For the dough

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rice flour (Appam/Pathiri/Idiyappam flour)
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup hot boiling water (adjust as needed)

For extra flavor (optional):

  • ¼ cup grated coconut
  • 2-3 shallots (or spring onion whites)
  • ½ teaspoon fennel seeds

Directions:

  1. Grind coconut, shallots, and fennel seeds with a little water to form a paste.
  2. In a bowl, mix rice flour, salt, and the coconut paste.
  3. Gradually add hot water and knead into a soft, smooth dough.

For the Fish Filling

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • Curry leaves, a few
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • A small piece of tomato, chopped
  • 1 can tuna, drained
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp Kashmiri chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped

Directions:

  1. Heat oil in a pan, sauté ginger-garlic paste, curry leaves, and onion until soft.
  2. Add tomato and cook until mushy.
  3. Stir in tuna, salt, and spices, mixing well.
  4. Finish with chopped coriander leaves and turn off the heat.

Assembling & Cooking

  1. Take a portion of dough, flatten it into a disc, and place the fish filling in the center.
  2. Fold and shape as desired, sealing the edges.
  3. Steam for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.
Enjoy these soft, flavorful fish cakes warm with a cup of tea.
